Grand Falls Drug Store Ltd
Description
Grand Falls Drug Store boasts a rich legacy steeped in history, dating back to its inception in 1913 by a consortium of businessmen associated with the A.N.D. Company. The first pharmacist, Mr. H. A. Morrissey, oversaw the initial years, witnessing its incorporation in 1915. Thomas P. McCarthy took the helm around 1918, steering the establishment through pivotal eras like two World Wars and the Great Depression until his passing in 1956. His daughter, Patricia, continued the legacy, attaining her Diploma of Pharmacy in 1946 and, alongside her husband George P. Winslow, managed the store for nearly three decades.
The '60s saw Patricia's brother Bill contributing significantly to the store's operations, overseeing renovations that included a beloved soda fountain. In 1985, after a legacy-defining journey, the Winslows sold the store to Roy Green, a pharmacist who imbibed the ethos of exceptional, personalized service. Under Roy's guidance, the store maintained its community-centric approach, built on trust and personalized care.
As Roy prepared for retirement, Vanessa Power, a locally raised pharmacist, steeped in the community's ethos, stepped in. Graduating from MUN School of Pharmacy in 2016 and earning her doctorate in 2021, Vanessa carries the torch, aspiring to blend tradition with innovation. Eager to revolutionize the landscape of pharmaceutical services, she aims to prioritize clinical care and honor the legacy of those who shaped the Drug Store's enduring heritage.
